Price and warranty

The EX5 Complete and the Atto 3 Evo Dynamic both cost $41,990 before on-road costs. At the top, the EX5 Inspire costs $45,990 and the Atto 3 Evo Premium $46,990. CarExpert lists EX5 drive-away prices of $46,267 and $50,407, and RACV gives Victorian drive-away prices of $45,919 and $51,129 for the two Atto 3 variants.

Geely covers the EX5 for 7 years with no kilometer limit, and its battery for 8 years with no kilometer limit. BYD covers the Atto 3 for 6 years or 150,000 km, and its battery for 8 years or 160,000 km. So, a high-mileage driver gets more cover from the EX5.

Range and charging

The EX5's 68.4 kWh battery gives 475 km of WLTP range in the Complete and 450 km in the Inspire. That beats the Atto 3 Evo Dynamic's 420 km, but not the Evo Premium's 510 km.

On AC, the EX5 charges at up to 11 kW, like the Evo Premium, while the Evo Dynamic is limited to 7 kW. On DC, the EX5 peaks at 100 kW, and CarExpert quotes 30-80% in 20 minutes. The Evo Dynamic peaks at 110 kW and the Evo Premium at 220 kW. The published charge times use different windows, so they are not directly comparable. The charging page covers the Atto 3 in detail.

Space

The EX5 has the larger cargo area with the rear seats folded: 1,877 liters, against 1,340 liters for the Evo Dynamic and 1,360 liters plus a 101-liter front trunk for the Evo Premium. The EX5's seats-up figure is less clear, because CarExpert quotes 302 to 410 liters in its 2026 review and 461 liters in its 2025 review. The Evo Dynamic has 434 liters with the seats up.

Safety and driver assistance

The EX5 has a five-star ANCAP rating from 2025, covering all variants built from January 2025, with scores of 86% for adult occupants, 87% for children, 83% for vulnerable road users, and 85% for safety assist. The Atto 3 holds a five-star rating from 2022, and CarExpert reports that the Evo carries it, although ANCAP's own page lists only the classic variants.

Neither car's driver assistance escapes criticism. CarExpert described the EX5's systems as intrusive, and Euro NCAP graded the 2024 Atto 3's driver assistance 'Not Recommended'.

Reviews

CarExpert rated the 2026 EX5 Good. It praised the sharp pricing, the build quality, and the comfortable, spacious cabin, and it criticized frustrating usability, an overly soft ride, and intrusive driver assistance. CarExpert rated the classic Atto 3 Very Good in 2022 and 2024, and its European drive of the Evo was not rated. The review page covers the Atto 3 reviews.

Verdict

At $41,990, the EX5 Complete gives more for the money than the Atto 3 Evo Dynamic: 55 km more range, faster AC charging, more folded cargo space, a newer ANCAP rating, and a warranty with no kilometer limit. The Atto 3 Evo Dynamic has only a slightly higher DC peak and quicker claimed acceleration in return.

At the top of each range, the Atto 3 Evo Premium is the stronger long-distance car. For $1,000 more than the EX5 Inspire, it adds 60 km of range, more than double the DC charging peak, and 70 kW more power.

So, the EX5 Complete is the better value at entry level, and the Atto 3 Evo Premium is the better choice for a buyer who drives long distances. CarExpert's criticism of the EX5's ride and driver assistance is worth testing on a drive before buying either.
