Used BYD Atto 3 in Australia

A used BYD Atto 3 in Australia is a 2022 to 2025 car, because the Atto 3 went on sale here in 2022. Carsales indicative values in April 2026 ran from $24,200 for a 2022 car to $41,000 for a 2024 car. BYD's new-car warranty runs with the car, so a second-hand buyer gets whatever cover is left.

Used prices by year

These are Carsales indicative values from April 2026, excluding government charges, as published by Revolted.

Used BYD Atto 3 indicative values by model year
2022$24,200 to $31,200
2023$29,200 to $33,500
2024$29,700 to $41,000
2025$33,200 to $35,800

The spread inside each year is wide because battery size and trim vary, so compare cars with the same battery. Values also fall over time. In March 2026, EV Central reported an analysis by the broker Savvy, based on RedBook data, that put the Atto 3 39% below its new price. Revolted calls a 2023 Extended Range in the low $30,000s "the sweet spot".

Which version to look for

From 2022 to 2024, the Atto 3 came as the Standard Range and the Extended Range. The Standard Range has a 49.92 kWh battery, 345 km of WLTP range, and a 70 kW DC charging peak. The Extended Range has a 60.48 kWh battery, 420 km of range, and an 88 kW DC peak.

The June 2024 update replaced the 12.8-inch screen with a 15.6-inch screen and fitted Continental tires. In January 2025, the two versions became the Essential and the Premium, with the same two batteries. The Essential has 17-inch wheels and the smaller 12.8-inch screen. The model years page covers each change.

Warranty on a used Atto 3

BYD's handbook says the new-car warranty "runs with the vehicle and is transferable from owner-to-owner". The car is covered for 6 years or 150,000 km, and the battery and drive unit for 8 years or 160,000 km, with at least 70% of the battery's capacity guaranteed. Both periods start on the date of first registration, except in Western Australia, where they start on the date of delivery.

So, a car first registered in September 2022 has vehicle cover until September 2028 and battery cover until September 2030, unless it reaches the distance limit first. After buying, complete BYD's change of ownership form. The handbook also requires detailed service records, and it excludes work done by anyone other than an authorized BYD service center.

Demo cars

A demo car is a new car the dealer has registered and used for test drives. Current demo stock includes the outgoing Essential and Premium. BYD's warranty on a demo starts when the dealer registers it and puts it into service, not when you buy it. In Western Australia, the warranty period starts on the date of purchase, but the distance is counted from when the car became a demo.

The ACCC says a dealer should disclose at the time of sale when a car's warranty started before the buyer bought it. Also check the build date on the car itself. In July 2026, CarExpert reported that more than 1,200 Atto 3, Sealion 8, and Shark 6 cars built in 2025 had been sold as 2026 builds, and BYD offered refunds or $3,500 in compensation.

Checks before buying

A used Atto 3 needs the usual paperwork checks, plus a battery report. Before paying:

  • Run a PPSR (Personal Property Securities Register) check, which costs $2 at ppsr.gov.au and shows whether money is owed on the car or it has been written off or stolen.
  • Get a documented battery state-of-health reading from a BYD service center or an independent tester. Revolted treats anything under 90% on a 2023 or 2024 car as a red flag.
  • On a car built before November 2022, confirm the recall REC-005579 work was done. The recall fixed the center rear child seat anchorage and the passenger airbag switch.
  • Ask for the full service history, and confirm the recent over-the-air software updates are installed.
  • Check the 12V battery's age, and assume it is original if the seller doesn't know.
  • Check the tires. Early cars came on Atlas Batman tires, which Revolted suggests budgeting to replace.

A PPSR check does not show the odometer reading, the ownership history, or how much is owed. RAC WA runs a battery health check that covers BYD for $175 for members and $200 for others, and the NRMA also tests EV batteries. The buyer's guide and common issues pages cover the inspection in more detail.

Where to find one for sale

Used Atto 3s are listed on Carsales and CarsGuide. BYD dealers sell demo and runout stock of the older Essential and Premium. BYD Australia did not advertise a certified pre-owned program when this page was checked, so a used car's condition rests on your own checks.

Used or new Evo

A 2023 or 2024 Extended Range has the same 60.48 kWh battery and 420 km of WLTP range as the new Atto 3 Evo Dynamic, which costs $41,990 before on-road costs. Revolted found 2023 Extended Range cars listed on Carsales from about $29,990 drive-away, but a used car has part of its warranty gone and an 88 kW DC peak. The Evo Dynamic starts a full warranty and charges at up to 110 kW.

So, a used Extended Range with a clean battery report is the value buy. The Evo Dynamic is the better buy for full warranty cover and faster charging, and the AU price page covers it.

Used Atto 3 FAQ

How much is a used BYD Atto 3?

Carsales indicative values in April 2026 ran from $24,200 for a 2022 car to $41,000 for a 2024 car, excluding government charges. Used prices change month to month, so treat these figures as a starting point.

Does the BYD warranty transfer to a second owner?

Yes. BYD's warranty runs with the car, so a second owner gets the rest of the 6-year vehicle cover and the 8-year battery cover, counted from first registration. Complete BYD's change of ownership form after buying.

Is a demo BYD Atto 3 worth buying?

A demo can be worth buying when the discount covers the warranty time already used, because BYD starts a demo's warranty when the dealer registers it. Compare the price with the $41,990 Evo Dynamic, which has a larger battery than the old Essential and a full warranty.
