BYD Atto 3 exterior design
The BYD Atto 3's exterior was designed under BYD design director Wolfgang Egger, using what BYD calls its 'Dragon Face' design language. The shape has stayed the same since 2022, and the updates in 2024 and 2026 changed details rather than the body.

Original design
BYD says the LED headlights and the horizontal brushed grille bar represent a dragon's eyes and mustache. The cabin follows a separate sport and fitness theme, which the interior page covers. The body dimensions are on the specs page.
2024 update
The 2024 update in Australia was a minor refresh. The 'Build Your Dreams' script on the tailgate became a 'BYD' badge, the rear window pillar gained black trim, and Cosmos Black joined the paint list. Inside, a 15.6-inch screen replaced the 12.8-inch unit, and 235/50 Continental EcoContact 6 tires replaced the original 215/55 Atlas tires. Body panels and the interior layout stayed largely unchanged.
So, the tailgate badge is the quickest way to tell a 2023 car from a 2024 car.
2026 Evo changes
The Evo looks very close to the classic Atto 3 from the outside. CarExpert lists revised side sills, a reworked floating-roof D-pillar, a larger rear spoiler with a twin-bulb high-level brake light, and new 18-inch alloy wheels.
The larger changes are inside. A calmer gray finish replaces the two-tone cabin, the gear selector moves to the steering column, the driver display grows to 8.8 inches, and the 15.6-inch screen no longer rotates.

Evo colours in Australia
BYD Australia lists four paint colors for the Evo: Ski White, Harbour Grey, Cosmos Black, and Atlantis Grey.
Inspecting a used car
When inspecting a used Atto 3:
- Check panel gaps and paint along the door edges and bumper corners.
- Match the tailgate badge and wheels to the model year in the listing.
- Check the charge-port door alignment and seal.
- Read the tire date codes and look for uneven wear.
