BYD Atto 3 names and versions explained

The BYD Atto 3's names change by market and by year, so the same badge can mean different cars. In Australia, 'Premium' meant a 60.48 kWh front-wheel-drive car in 2025 and means a 74.88 kWh rear-wheel-drive Atto 3 Evo from September 2026. So, the battery size in kWh identifies a version more reliably than its name.

Atto 3 and Yuan Plus

The Atto 3 and the Yuan Plus are the same car. BYD sells it as the Yuan Plus in China and as the Atto 3 in overseas markets. BYD says the name 'Atto' is inspired by the attosecond, "the smallest time scale unit in physics".

The name 'Atto 3' has also started to split. Electrive, citing Auto Trader NZ, reported in May 2026 that BYD plans to sell the third-generation Yuan Plus overseas as the Atto 5 from 2027, possibly alongside the current Atto 3.

From September 2026Evo Dynamic: 60.48 kWh, 420 kmEvo Premium: 74.88 kWh, 510 km

The 2025 Premium is the old Extended Range under a new name, with the same battery and range. The Evo Dynamic also shares that battery and range, but it has faster DC charging, at 110 kW. The model years page covers each change.

What "Premium" means

'Premium' is the most confusing name, because it covers three different cars.

What "Premium" means
CarBatteryDrive and powerRange
2025 Atto 3 Premium (Australia)60.48 kWhFront-wheel drive, 150 kW420 km WLTP
2026 Atto 3 Evo Premium (Australia)74.88 kWhRear-wheel drive, 230 kW510 km WLTP
Atto 3 Premium (India)60.48 kWhFront-wheel drive, 150 kW521 km ARAI

A used or runout 'Premium' in Australia is usually the 2025 car, because the Evo Premium only went on sale in September 2026. The Evo page covers the Evo Premium.

The same name in other markets

Other trim names also mean different cars in different countries:

  • Dynamic: in Australia, the Evo Dynamic has the 60.48 kWh battery. In India, the Dynamic is the entry version, with the smaller 49.92 kWh battery.
  • Superior: in Nepal, the Superior has the 60.48 kWh battery and a 100 kW motor. In India, it is the top version, with the same battery and a 150 kW motor.
  • Advance: Nepal's entry version, with the 49.92 kWh battery and a 100 kW motor. Earlier Nepali reports spell it Advanced.
  • Design: in the UK, Design was the top trim of the classic car. On the Evo, Design is the rear-wheel-drive version, below the all-wheel-drive Excellence.

The Nepal and India pages list the versions sold there.

Classic, Evo, and "2026"

This site calls the 2022 to 2025 car the classic Atto 3, which is not a BYD name. BYD calls the Atto 3 Evo an update, although CarExpert describes it as "a comprehensive overhaul". It keeps the 4,455 mm body and adds new batteries, with rear-wheel drive and an 800-volt system on the Premium.

A "2026 Atto 3" depends on the market. In Australia and Europe, it is the Evo. In Nepal, it is a refreshed classic car with the 100 kW motor. In China, the 2026 Yuan Plus is the third-generation car, 4,665 mm long, which is a different and larger vehicle. The history page covers how the versions split.

Range figures by test

The same battery also carries different range figures, because countries use different tests. The 60.48 kWh battery is rated at 420 km on the WLTP test used in Australia and Europe, 510 km on China's CLTC test, and 521 km on India's ARAI test. So, a range figure is only comparable with another from the same test.

How to identify a version

The badge is the least reliable guide to which Atto 3 a car is. Check these instead:

  • The battery size in kWh, on the spec sheet or window sticker.
  • The drive layout: in Australia, every classic car and the Evo Dynamic are front-wheel drive, and only the Evo Premium is rear-wheel drive.
  • The model year and build date, because the Australian names changed in January 2025 and September 2026.
  • The range figure and its test, because WLTP, CLTC, and ARAI figures differ.

The variants page compares the versions' hardware in detail.
