2022: launch
The Atto 3 went on sale in Australia in mid-2022, in two versions. The Standard Range had a 49.92 kWh battery and 345 km of WLTP range, and the Extended Range had a 60.48 kWh battery and 420 km. Prices were $44,381 and $47,381 before on-road costs. EVDirect distributed the car, with deliveries and servicing through Eagers Automotive, and first customer deliveries began in September 2022. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto arrived later in 2022 through an over-the-air update.
Late 2022 and 2023: price rise and ANCAP changes
Cars built from 21 November 2022 carry a five-star ANCAP rating, after BYD changed the child restraint anchorages. Earlier cars are unrated unless BYD's updates were applied. Recall REC-005579, issued in December 2022, covered 703 cars built in 2022.
In December 2022, prices rose by $3,630, to $48,011 for the Standard Range and $51,011 for the Extended Range. Existing orders kept their original price, and new orders were quoted delivery in April or May 2023. CarExpert reported no specification changes alongside the price rise.
2024: the June update
The June 2024 update brought these changes:
- A 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen on all models, replacing the 12.8-inch screen.
- Dual-zone climate control.
- Revised window trim and rear pillar graphics, and a blue and black interior.
- 'BYD' lettering on the tailgate, replacing the 'Build Your Dreams' script.
- Continental EcoContact 6 tires on 18-inch wheels.
By the time of the update, list prices had fallen to $44,499 for the Standard and $47,499 for the Extended. The paint choices were Cosmos Black, Surf Blue, Forest Green, Boulder Grey, Parkour Red, and Ski White.
2025: Essential and Premium
In January 2025, BYD renamed and repriced the range. The new Essential took the 49.92 kWh battery at $39,990, a new entry price for the Atto 3. The Premium took the 60.48 kWh battery at $44,990, which was $2,509 less than the Extended Range it replaced.
The Essential reached that price with a lower specification. It has 17-inch wheels instead of 18-inch, a 12.8-inch screen instead of the 15.6-inch, six speakers instead of eight, and no panoramic sunroof or wireless phone charger. Its DC charging peak is 70 kW, against 88 kW for the Premium.
2026: the Atto 3 Evo
The 2026 Atto 3 Evo opened for orders in August 2026, and first deliveries began in September. The Evo Dynamic replaced the Essential at $41,990, with the 60.48 kWh battery and front-wheel drive. The Evo Premium costs $46,990 and moves to rear-wheel drive, a 74.88 kWh battery, and 220 kW DC charging. The Evo page covers the changes in detail.
Checking a used car by year
The model year changes what to check on a used Atto 3:
- 2022 cars built before 21 November 2022: confirm recall REC-005579 was done, because the ANCAP rating does not apply until BYD's updates are fitted.
- Cars before June 2024: expect the 12.8-inch screen and, on early cars, the original Atlas Batman tires that reviewers criticized.
- 2025 Essential: compare the specification with the Premium, because it has smaller wheels, a smaller screen, and fewer features.
Carsales indicative values in April 2026 ranged from $24,200 to $31,200 for a 2022 car and from $33,200 to $35,800 for a 2025 car, excluding government charges. The buyer's guide and common issues pages cover the rest of the checks.
