Each step up the range costs $8,000 to $10,000 at the entry level, and it buys more range, more space, and more power. Only the Atto 2 lacks an ANCAP rating.

Atto 1

The Atto 1 is BYD's smallest car in Australia, at 3,990 mm long with seats for four. The Essential has a 65 kW motor and a 30 kWh battery for 220 km of WLTP range. The Premium steps up to 115 kW and 43.2 kWh for 310 km. CarExpert reports a five-star ANCAP rating, based on ANCAP's testing of the same car sold in Europe as the Dolphin Surf.

In September 2026, BYD cut the Essential's drive-away price to $19,990 nationwide, for orders until 15 December 2026, according to Zecar. That made it Australia's cheapest new car.

Atto 2

The Atto 2 is a five-seat small SUV with a 51.13 kWh battery, 345 km of WLTP range, and a 130 kW motor. It is 4,310 mm long, with a 380-liter boot. RACV listed it as not yet tested by ANCAP in April 2026, which matters for a buyer choosing a family car. The Atto 2 vs Atto 3 page covers the pair in detail.

Atto 3

The 2026 Atto 3 Evo is the largest of the three, at 4,455 mm long, and the only one with a 74.88 kWh battery and 220 kW DC charging on the Premium. The Evo Dynamic costs $10,000 more than the Atto 2 Dynamic for 75 km more range and a bigger boot. The Evo page covers both variants.

In Nepal

Cimex, BYD's distributor in Nepal, sells all three with different motors from the Australian cars.

The Nepal Atto 1 has a 45 kW motor, and the Atto 2 and Atto 3 both have 100 kW, so the Atto 3 costs more there for its size and range, not for power. In the 2025-26 fiscal year, the Atto 2 was Nepal's most imported car, with 2,264 units, and the Atto 1 came second with 1,299, while the Atto 3 recorded 257, according to Meroauto. The Nepal page covers the Atto 3 there.

Which to choose

The Atto 1 suits city driving and second-car use, as long as four seats and 220 to 310 km are enough. The Atto 2 gives five seats and an SUV body for the lowest price, but it has no ANCAP rating yet. The Atto 3 Evo is the family car of the three, with the most range, the biggest boot, and the fastest charging.

So, for a household's only car, the Atto 3 is the one to choose.
